The "extraordinary" general assembly of the Lebanese Olympic Committee approves the consensus option and ends the differences

In a crucial meeting held on Thursday, September 12, at the Lebanese Olympic Committee headquarters in Hazmieh, the Committee's "extraordinary" General Assembly approved a consensus-based approach to resolve the disputes that had hampered the Committee's administrative and financial operations in recent times. The meeting, attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. George Kallas, represented by Ms. Fadia Halal, included discussions on the "consensus agreement" designed to end internal conflicts and establish a new framework for cooperation.

The meeting was attended by the head of the committee, Dr. Pierre Jalakh, a number of members of the executive committee, and representatives of 22 Olympic federations out of 26. During the meeting, the mutual lawsuits were dropped, the decision to freeze the weightlifting and wrestling federations was cancelled, and the administrative suspension of retired Brigadier General Hassan Rostom and Khodr Mokalled was lifted.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Jalakh emphasized the importance of consensus and turning the page on disagreements for a brighter future for sports in Lebanon. Ms. Halal also delivered a speech on behalf of Minister Kallas, affirming the Ministry's support for a new phase of cooperation in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.

The meeting concluded with a dialogue session with media representatives, during which Dr. Jalakh transparently emphasized the importance of the next stage and the need for concerted efforts to develop the sports movement.
