اتفاقية تعاون رياضية بين بلدية جونية واتحاد كرة السلة

The “Platea” complex in Jounieh witnessed the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the Mayor of Jounieh, Sheikh Juan Hobeish, and the President of the Lebanese Basketball Federation, Akram Halabi, with the aim of constructing a new headquarters for the Federation and its affiliated sports facilities, under the patronage and in the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Noura Bayrakdarian, along with a crowd of political, sports and media figures.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee, MP Simon Abi Ramia, and MPs Nada Bustani and Jihad Pakradouni, along with representatives of a number of MPs and sports officials, including the Vice President of the Olympic Committee, Asaad Nakhle, its Secretary General, Jawdat Shaker, and members of the Olympic Committee, in addition to representatives of several sports federations, the Commander of the Higher Center for Military Sports, Brigadier General Mikhail Moussa, and heads of clubs and prominent figures in the sports and media field.

The ceremony opened with the national anthem, then journalist Rawi Saba delivered a speech in which he welcomed the attendees, praising the partnership between Sheikh Juan Hobeish and the Lebanese Basketball Federation, which comes to keep pace with the great development that the game is witnessing in Lebanon, considering that this step reflects the interest of the Jounieh municipality in sports as part of its development vision.

During the ceremony, the project design prepared by "Zak Engineering and Construction Company" was presented, where Engineer Ziad Abu Shabaka gave an overview of the future facilities that will provide an advanced sports environment for Lebanese basketball.

For his part, Akram Halabi expressed his delight at the realization of this project, considering the construction of a dedicated headquarters for the federation a long-awaited dream, and stating that the partnership with Sheikh Juan Hobeish reflects a shared commitment to developing Lebanese basketball. He also addressed Minister Bayrakdarian, emphasizing the importance of combating corruption in sports and calling for an investigation into the sham federations and clubs that hinder the progress of Lebanese sports.

Sheikh Juan Hobeish stressed that the project represents an important milestone in the sporting journey of Jounieh and Kesrouan, noting that sports are an integral part of the identity of the city, which seeks to be a prominent sporting center alongside its educational, tourist and economic status.

Minister Bayrakdarian delivered a speech emphasizing the status of Lebanese basketball as a cultural symbol for the country and praising individual initiatives that contribute to supporting sports, given the lack of sufficient government resources. She also revealed the ministry's plan to prepare a comprehensive report on sports facilities and work on their rehabilitation in cooperation with local and international organizations.

In conclusion, Habish and Halabi signed the cooperation agreement amidst applause from those present. Then, a number of women were honored on the occasion of "International Women's Day," before the ceremony concluded with a breakfast banquet in honor of the guests.
