Conclusion of the General Assembly of the Arab Olympic Committees

The 22nd Ordinary General Assembly meeting of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees concluded in Amman, Jordan, on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Lebanon participated with a delegation from the Lebanese Olympic Committee, including Vice President Grand Master Sami Qablawi and Secretary General Jawdat Shaker. The meeting was chaired by Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Saudi Minister of Youth and Sports, President of the Saudi Olympic Committee, and President of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees.

During the meeting, several sports files were presented relating to past sporting events and others being organized by the Federation, as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was chosen to host the seventeenth Arab Games, for which both Bahrain and Jordan had applied to host.

A decision was also made to amend some of the resolutions of the 20th General Assembly meeting held on December 8th. This meeting provided an opportunity for working sessions between the Vice President and Secretary General of the Lebanese Olympic Committee and several participating sports figures, most notably Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, to whom they conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the President of the Lebanese Olympic Committee, Dr. Pierre Jalakh. For his part, Prince Abdulaziz asked Qablawi and Shaker to convey his warmest greetings and deep appreciation to Dr. Jalakh and the members of the Lebanese Olympic Committee.

The General Assembly meeting was preceded by a meeting of the Executive Office of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees, which was attended by Lebanese Executive Office member George Abboud.

The Jordanian Olympic Committee also hosted a dinner in honor of the delegations participating in the 40th Executive Board meeting and the 22nd Ordinary General Assembly meeting. Prince Omar bin Faisal and his children, Princesses Alia, Aisha, and Sarah, attended the dinner, along with the Secretary General of the Jordanian Olympic Committee, Rana Al-Saidi, and the Secretary General of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees, Abdul Aziz Al-Anzi. A documentary film showcasing the sporting achievements of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was also screened.
