Van Nistelrooy was a candidate to take over at Leicester City, but the club eventually chose Brendan Rodgers.

Van Nistelrooy had good results with PSV, but left due to disagreements with the management.

Van Nistelrooy is believed to be able to continue the attacking approach implemented by former manager Vincent Kompany.
