In an unprecedented achievement, runner Julianne Alfred gave her country, Saint Lucia, its first ever Olympic gold medal, by winning the women's 100-meter race at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The race was held at the Stade de France, where Alfred managed to achieve a time of 10.72 seconds, outperforming American Sha'Cari Richardson who achieved 10.87 seconds, while her compatriot Melissa Jefferson won the bronze medal with a time of 10.92 seconds.
With this historic win, Alfred made history as the first female athlete from Saint Lucia to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games.
