The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) will become the first international sports federation to award financial prizes to the winners of a gold medal in the Mother of Games during the Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11 next.
The gold medal winners in each of the 48 competitions in athletics in Paris will receive $50,000, with the total prize pool amounting to $2.4 million from the share of the IOC’s revenues that the International Federation receives every four years.
Each individual Olympic champion will receive $50,000, with relay teams receiving the same amount to be shared among the team members.
The International Federation added that the financial prizes will also include silver and bronze medal winners, but starting from the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
