The Saudi women's national football team's technical staff has called up 23 players to participate in the eighth edition of the West Asian Championship, hosted by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation in Jeddah from February 19 to 29.
The list included Clara Khalil, Lamitta Al-Deeb and Marcel Skiki in goalkeeping, Amna Karima, Ayana Rizkallah, Dima Al-Kasti, Julie Atallah, Carly Harfoush, Lara Bou Hamra and Waad Raad in defense, Cecile Iskandar, Christina Al-Takla, Natalie Matar, Rana Al-Mukdad, Stephanie Al-Qazi, Yara Bou Rida and Zahwa Arabi in midfield, and Angelina Saadeh, Christy Maalouf, Cynthia Salha, Hanin Tamim, Laila Iskandar and Samira Awad in attack. This is the fifth participation of the Cedars women in the West Asian Championships, as they seek to achieve the title for the first time in their history, after finishing third twice (2007 and 2019) and runner-up in the last edition in 2022.
This participation comes after the women's national team achieved its first title in its history, winning the international friendly women's tournament organized by the Saudi Federation last September in the city of Taif, after defeating Bhutan 1-0 in the final, with a goal from Laila Iskandar.
The eight participating teams were divided into two groups. Lebanon was placed in Group One alongside Saudi Arabia (the host), Guam, and Jordan, while Group Two included Nepal, Syria, Iraq, and Palestine.
The first and second place teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals and from there to the final.
Lebanon will begin its journey against Guam on February 19, 2024, at King Abdullah Sports City Reserve Stadium, and will face the host team, Saudi Arabia, on the 21st, and Jordan on the 23rd, at the same stadium.
